Slap Ya Mama Pound Cake

Ingredients

1 pound (4 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

2 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

8 large eggs

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan or tube pan.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl using an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add the vanilla extract, then mix in the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. (Optional) Top with glaze or frosting if desired.
